Parent Involvement

"Imitation is the first instinct of the awakening mind."

Bridges Montessori partners with families to provide children the most enriching personal growth experience balanced with a superior education. We welcome and encourage parents to participate in the many opportunities we offer to join our school community. At Bridges, we live the notion that “it takes a village to raise a child”, and our inclusive attitude toward our families reflects our belief that together we create outstanding individuals and exemplary world citizens.

Our desire to build strong connections between home and school is not just a “feel good” idea. It also is about ensuring success. There is a proven statistical correlation between parental participation and academic performance. Also, by being involved, parents serve as role models for community service, a concept critical to the Bridges Montessori program. To help each child succeed and allow parents to lead by example, we have created many different ways for parents to participate and easily fulfill a family requirement of 15 volunteer hours per year.

  • Parents volunteer to read with emerging readers or to share their professional expertise and special talents with the students. A reading workshop takes place each October to prepare parents who would like to work with emerging readers.
  • Parents participate in our many celebrations and special days in the classrooms, such as our annual mother’s day teas and our popular dad’s day events.
  • School-wide events, such as book fairs, family sing-a-longs, road clean ups, beach clean ups, and field day all benefit from the participation of parents.
  • Classroom Ambassadors are parents who serve a very special and important role throughout the year as liaisons between teachers and families. In coordination with the school administration, Ambassadors help build classroom unity, support fundraising events such as the Annual Gala through classroom crafts and gift baskets, help organize class socials at the start of the year, and coordinate special events and celebrations (i.e dad’s day gift creation, beautifying the garden).
  • New parents are welcomed into our school community with a special Meet and Greet event before the start of the school year.
  • We offer four Parent Education Workshops during the school year, providing two important programs to help parents learn more about the Montessori curriculum and two additional workshops on other topics of interest.
  • There are monthly Conscious Discipline workshops offered on campus for a nominal fee.
